Our story
Ohoué, born from a shea butter story
Ohoué was born from an intimate history with shea butter.
Since my childhood, shea butter has been part of my life. It is one of those gestures that are passed down, one of those habits we hold on to, one of those simple yet essential forms of care found in many West African families.
Originally from Benin, a country where shea butter holds an important place in the culture of care, I grew up surrounded by this precious ingredient. It accompanied the gestures of everyday life: the skin, the hair, small discomforts, colder seasons, the moments when the body needed to be nourished, protected and comforted.
When I came to France for my studies, I brought this culture of care with me. Shea butter remained a landmark. I used it for my hair, to nourish, to add shine and to seal in moisture, but also for my skin, especially in winter, when the cold makes the body more sensitive and more in need of comfort.
This relationship with shea butter took on even more meaning during my pregnancy.
Guided by the advice of the women in my family, my mother and my sisters, I brought shea butter into my daily ritual. I applied it carefully to the areas most affected by the body's transformations: the belly, the hips, the thighs, the legs.
It was not only a form of care. It was a moment for myself. A gesture of gentleness, of patience and of connection with my changing body.
After giving birth, this ritual continued. The postpartum period is a time when the body remains sensitive, when the skin is still changing, when hormones, tiredness and physical changes can strain the relationship we have with ourselves. Shea butter then remained my ally. A familiar, comforting, almost instinctive ingredient.
Over time, I began to recommend shea butter to those around me. Then to pass it on to my children, who grew up with this culture of care. In our home, shea butter became a family essential: for the skin, the hair, massages, cold seasons and all those moments when the body calls for more gentleness.
It was while preparing my own care products at home, for my family, that the desire to share this ingredient with a wider audience was born.
But I did not simply want to offer raw shea butter.
I wanted to create a more modern, more sensory, more desirable experience. A whipped texture, lighter, more pleasant to apply. A softer touch. Fragrances designed to make the ritual even more enjoyable, while respecting everyone's sensitivities.
This is how Ohoué was born.
Inspired by "houégbe," which means "home" in Fon, Ohoué carries the idea of an inner place. A space of gentleness, of care and of transmission. A symbolic home where we return to ourselves, to our body, to our roots and to the gestures that were passed down to us.
Ohoué is a skincare brand born in France, with Beninese roots, inspired by a family culture of shea butter and designed for the rituals of today.
Through its textures, its fragrances and its world, Ohoué celebrates the nourishment of the skin, the gentleness of gestures, the pleasure of ingredients and those simple moments when care becomes a return to oneself.
